The Pirescoxe Castle is located in Santa Iria da Azoia, Loures. Built in a high position, from there we can see the Tagus River.
It is a typical building of the Portuguese nobility of the middle age. It was built by Nuno Vasques de Castelo Branco and his wife D.Joana Zuzarte in 1442. The castle was abandoned with the end of Castelo Branco family in 1750, with the death of D. Pedro Castelo Branco.
There is a legend that tells the story of a hidden treasure of King D.Sebastião in the basement of the castle. The legend may have its origin in one of the owners who followed D. Sebastian in the battle Alcácer Quibir.
The area surrounding the castle is a pleasant garden, and inside it can find a bar with a pleasant terrace. In the summer nights of Friday and Saturday we can watch various performances in the courtyard of the castle.
