The Daniel Dunklin Grave Site overlooking the Mississippi River in Herculaneum, Missouri, has been designated a State Historic Site by the Department of Natural Resources. The Missouri General Assembly enacted into law on July 4, 1966 the conveyance of the parcel of land, containing the graves of Daniel Dunklin and members of his family, to the State Park Board. The parcel of land sits on about one acre in southeast corner of property once owned by Daniel Dunklin. Dunklin moved to Herculaneum in 1840 and passed away in 1844. Governor Dunklin was the fifth Missouri Governor elected in 1832 and is known for the improvements he made to the public education in Missouri and is known as the "Father of the Missouri Public Schools". He also was responsible for improvements to the Missouri penal system. Dunklin was later named the surveyor general for Missouri and Illinois.

The grave site also contains the graves of his wife, Emily, his great-grandson, James F. Dunklin, his daughter, Emily S. McIvan and his grandson, Daniel.
