This park was named after two doctors, Dr. Lawson Tate and Dr. H.C Evans.

Each year after the town's annual Christmas Parade the town's people are welcomed to the Lighting In The Park, that takes place downtown at Tate Evans Park. Attendees are able to enjoy hot cider and join in the singing of carols as several festively decorated Christmas trees are lit.

This park has multiple playground areas, lots of equipment, pavilions and walking trail. There is a footbridge and even a small dog play area. There is something for everyone here.

This past Halloween Avery County goblins and ghouls – along with their parents and friends – were invited to gather at Tate-Evans Park in Banner Elk for the fourth annual Halloween Trunk or Treat, 5:30 – 8:00 PM on Friday, October 31.

It was a one-stop night of Halloween thrills, complete with Haunted House and loads of candy for the trick-or-treaters. Everyone was encouraged to participate in the “Trunk or Treat,” by bringing candy to share with the kids. More fun was had by decorating your vehicle – prizes are awarded to the first, second and third place “ghostmobiles.”

A costume contest for the kids added to the excitement, with prizes awarded by age group for prettiest, scariest, cutest, and most original.

If costumes and decorated cars weren't your thing, decorated or there was a new carved pumpkin Jack-o-Lantern contest. There was hot dogs, peanuts, and roasted corn available.

Trunk or Treat was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Banner Elk, with generous donations of labor and treats from area patrons and businesses
