This stained glass window is on extended loan from The Oakland Museum.
The information placard near the window gives this information:
"Southern Pacific Railroad
Sunset Lines EmblemOriginally installed in the Southern Pacific
terminal at the Oakland Mole, this window
greeted passengers as they transferred from
train to ferry boat. The cavernous sheds built
in 1882 crowned the long pier, once the center
of transcontinental and transbay train traffic.
Sod to the City of Oakland, the last ferry
docked at the terminal in 1958. Used for
trains for several more years, the building was
later dismantled, giving way to the Bay Area
Rapid Transit District's tube under the Bay.
Placed at the front of Passenger Slip No.4 in
1929, this art glass window measures ten feet
in diameter. The pieces of stained glass are
held together by strips of lead, conserved and
displayed in the original framework."
