A landmark white-painted wooden structure with a fabulous view of Monterey Bay, the Giant Dipper has hosted more than 50 million riders since its opening in 1924. The designer, Arthur Loof, said he wanted it to be “combination earthquake, balloon ascension, and aeroplane drop.”. He succeeded. A solid six-story drop begins the double-out-and-back loop ride which covers three large hills, clattering turns, and a dark tunnel.
The Beach Boardwalk sells season passes, all-day ride wristbands, and also individual ride tickets. If using ride tickets, the Giant Dipper ride costs $4.50. Admission to the Beach Boardwalk itself is free, not including any rides.
