This piece was designed by Nikki McClure and was installed in 2006 when the library and community center opened. McClure calls the piece "The Eddy" because its location is an area that many people mix and meet and this area spins off and creates an area of rest. The piece is a series of metal waves with different colored glass set among them.
McClure is an Olympia native, who's usual media is paper. She does paper cutting, where she uses an exacto knife and cuts intricate designs from a single sheet of paper. One could almost imagine that the waves in this piece were cut from paper instead of metal.
Parking is readily available in the library lot. The piece is next to a playground as well. The park is closed from 11:30pm to 6:00am. There is a cache in this park, that makes use of this piece to solve for the final coords. I have purposely not included photos of both sides of the piece, so you will have to check it out for yourself to find the cache! Don't miss the other public art at this location while visiting either.
