Famous architect William Weeks designed the building. Construction was completed in July 1915. In its early years, it may have had fewer than 1000 books; now it has more than 15,000 books, plus magazines, DVDs and CDs.
Since 1995, this branch has operated with a special grant for youth services, which has resulted in new books aimed at young adults and a network of public-access computers for homework help.
