This lighthouse is located at Cape Lookout in what is now the Cape Lookout National Seashore. Its day pattern has black checks facing North/South and white checks facing East/West. It is fully automated and flashes during day and night. The light is 150 feet high, but the lighthouse is 163 feet high.

The island is only accessible by boat. Private ferry services are available, for a fee, from nearby Harkers Island (which is accessible by car).
