It may appear to be a somewhat whimsical sign, but when we were gearing up to take our rental kayak out on the bay, the staff at the kayak rental shop were deadly serious. They wouldn't divulge the origins of the sign, or the mishaps between bicycles and kayaks that may have occurred in the past, but I did pause and look both ways before carrying my kayak across the path.
