The West Lanham Hills Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Inc. Station 28 protects the communities of West Lanham Hills, City of New Carrollton and mutual aid to other communities within Prince George's County, Maryland. It is run by a very strong volunteer membership with a daytime paid crew. It's humble beginnings began in 1945.The station is a very busy station providing engine company and truck company operations. It now runs a mini pumper for local alarms and miscellaneous runs. In 1990, WLHVFD owned the Maryland's first 135 foot ladder truck. In the early days, the station also ran a heavy rescue squad and provided ambulance service to the community.The station houses two pumpers, ladder truck, mini pumper and various chief vehicles. WLHVFD is one of the busiest companies in Prince George's County. It also has an active Auxiliary.
