When Helen Wong was naming her new Beltline restaurant, she followed a mid-'00s process. She narrowed her choices down to 70-odd names and sent out a global e-mail to friends and associates asking them to vote. The result is the freshly minted, single-word, creature-included Blowfish at 625 11th Ave. S.W. (237-8588), a new sushi lounge in what used to be BarFly (how's that for an attractive name?) on the avenue formerly known as Electric.

Blowfish won over Bluefin, with Fugu -- the Japanese name for the blowfish -- finishing deep on the list. The other two common names for fugu -- Pufferfish and Globefish -- were not considered (Globefish was already taken).

Blowfish (or fugu, if you prefer) is the poison-toting delicacy that kills about 80 sushi aficionados in Japan each year through slow paralysis and asphyxiation. For those who do not consume enough to die, the poison imparts a pleasant buzz and tongue-tingling sensation.
