The city of Airdrie, AB started out as a stop on the rail line between Calgary and Edmonton in 1989. The waters of Nose Creek provided the perfect supply for the thirsty steam engines of the day.
While starting out as a rail town it soon became the site of settlement for homesteaders in the area. A town grew up around the rail depot and today it is primarily a bedroom community for Calgary.
The city has grown to a population of about 31,500 (2007 census) and has its own industrial and commercial base. It is one of the fastest growing communities in Alberta and recently annexed a large tract of land to the south which will bring it's borders to within a few kms of Calgary.
The coordinates are a location in Nose Creek Park which is near the center of the city.
