Candlestick Park was at the time a larger baseball-only stadium, and is constructed in a poor location. It's location in the summer is marred by frequent cold and gusty winds, and when the wind stops the fog frequently takes over. The Beatles arrived here in 1966 exhausted from almost four years of almost constant touring, recording and filmmaking, and had already decided among themselves to take a break. Although the band was still the most popular in the world, the phenomenon known as Beatlemanis was already waning, and attendance on the tour reflected that. That evening the stadium's 45,000 seats were just over 50% full, and the weather was in the 40s, with a strong westerly gale. The band commented later that, due to the cold and wind, they couldn't wait to be finished with the show, and whenever anyone suggested live concerts later, this was the image that formed in their minds.
