No. 40 is a working steam driven locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company, Schenectady, NY in 1920. The locomotive has a 2-8-2 wheel configuration. The locomotive is normally on display at this location however it is a working locomotive for the Valley Railroad and is one of two locomotives which pull the Essex Steam Train, a scenic railroad, thus if not on display it will return shortly or is in the shop across the tracks from this location. For more information about the Essex Steam Train see their
website.
