Kingsport developed over the years at the intersection of stage wagons, flatboats, and a railroad came together. As a planned city, the Clinchfield Railroad Station, built in 1905, was designed to be one end of the main downtown area. In the early 1970's the building passed from railroad use into renovation. It currently houses a number of businesses and organizations, primarily Citizen bank.
