As I approached the address, I thought that I must have gotten the information wrong. In my head I was picturing a storefront similar to the ones along route 190. Then I saw the signs, pointing me to my destination. I looked around for a minute and didn't see the shop, so I knocked on the front door of the house.
Stuart Benson, greeted me and my lapidary education began. In the back was a display area packed full of crystals, minerals and gems. I was exposed to things I never heard of before like a sparkling green gem, similar to an emerald, that is made from the ash of Mount St. Helens.
There were too many varieties to list and I thought the prices were extremely reasonable. Mr Benson is a veritable wealth of information who also teaches rock polishing and silversmithing to create setting for gems.
This is a wonderful place to bring the kids. Plan on spending some time learning about all the many types of stones displayed here. If you are looking for something special, I'm sure Mr. Benson has it or can locate it for you.
