Breakthrough by Edwina Sandys (Granddaughter of Winston Churchill) is
constructed of eight pieces of the Berlin Wall from near the Brandenburg Gate.
The particular pieces of the Wall were selected for their colorful graffiti and
the repeated word "unwahr" meaning lies or untruths. The location of the
sculpture is on the campus of Westminster College, where Winston Churchill gave
his famous "Iron Curtain" speech in 1946. When Edwina Sandys went to East Berlin
with plans of selecting pieces of the wall for the sculpture it was found that
the sculpture may be cost prohibited because four foot sections of the wall were
selling for $60 - $200 thousand each however when the officials from East Berlin
heard of her plan to erect a Berlin Wall Memorial near where the famous "Iron
Curtain" speech was given they allowed her to select 8 pieces as a gift to the
college. The sculpture was dedicated by President Ronald Reagan on
November 9, 1990, one year after the fall of the Berlin Wall which occurred
November 9, 1989. For more information on the sculpture and its dedication see
