Trinity Church was founded in 1703 as a Swedish Lutheran church with clergy sent from from Sweden, it was the first Swedish church in New Jersey. The church was then known as the Church at Raccoon, Raccoon being the town's name until it was changed to Swedesboro. The church building at that time was a log church located about 100 meters north of the current church building. The current church building was built beginning in 1784 based on a design by Rev. Nicholas Collin. The design was influenced by the designs of churches in Philadelphia where Rev. Collin visited frequently. In 1786 the Swedish church discontinued sending clergy to the church and the church in search of clergy changed to Episcopal. The church has been well maintained through the years.
