General William Jackson Palmer was a war hero who made his fortune in the railroad business, particularly the Denver & Rio Grande. He built many of the early enterprises in the city, including the Antlers Hotel and a mansion for his Wife, Queen. Many sites are now named after him, including Parks, Schools, and streets. His statue is in the center of a major downdown intersection in Colorado Springs, and all offers to re-locate it have failed, due to the lofty position he holds in the city's history.
