Saint Anthony of Padua (ca. 1195 – June 13, 1231) was a Roman Catholic Franciscan priest who was canonized in May 30, 1232. San Antonio is named after this saint.

The statue was presented to the city in August 14, 1955 by Order of the Alhambra. The statue was sculpted by Tavralle Varsante.
