Willow Island Pony Express Station was built in 1949 on the south bank of the Platte River south of Darr. It was moved to its present location in Cozad NE in 1938.

The Pony Express plaque reads:
This building, when on its original site, was a Pony Express relay station. Billy Campbell and Melville Baughn both were riders on this portion of the trail. The Station was also used by the Central Overland California and Pikes Peak Express Company as a stage stop.
