According to Wikipedia, a glacial erratic is a piece of rock that deviates from the size and type of rock native to the area in which it rests; the name "erratic" is based on the errant location of these boulders. These rocks were “rafted” by glacial ice to their current locations, often over hundreds of miles. The erratics were deposited where the ice finally released its debris load. They can range in size from pebbles to large boulders such as Yeager Rock, a 400 ton, two-story erratic located on WA172 3.6 mi E of Mansfield, Washington on the Waterville Plateau.
