The Hocking Canal, built between 1829 and 1842, moved agricultural products and other goods along its 56 mile route to Carroll, Ohio, where it joined the Ohio-Erie Canal. The canal had 26 locks, seven culverts, and one aqueduct.
Lock #19 is visible from U.S. Route 33, between Logan and Nelsonville, Ohio. The lock has been preserved as part of a road-side park and is in very good condition.
There are metal bands that bind the top row of stones together. I haven't seen these bands on any of the other Hocking Canal locks that I've visited.
