"This bridge is among the older of the bascule bridges in Chicago whose trusses are configured such that the bridge is partly a pony truss and partly a deck truss.
Few specific designs of bridges have lasted as long as 60 years, but this unusual deck/pony trunnion bascule design sure did, and as such it was obviously a successful design."
Constructed in 1922

From Wikipedia: "A bascule bridge is a moveable bridge with a counterweight that continuously balances the span, or "leaf," throughout the entire upward swing in providing clearance for boat traffic."
