This work of life-size public art was conceived and created by Wyland, one of the world's most notable marine life artists. On October 23, 2000, it was dedicated at the park as his 86th mural. Wyland's work is seen throughout the world by an estimated one billion people every year. Since 1981, he has painted 85 monumental marine life murals, including "Ocean Planet", which was named the largest mural in the world in 1992 by the Guinness Book of World Records. In 1998, the United Nations proclaimed him the official artist for the "International Year of the Ocean" and issued a commemorative stamp in his honor.

There is a fee to enter "Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park", and it is certainly worth the visit. But the mural can be enjoyed at no cost.
