A longer course in Michigan geography tells you that the Lower Peninsula is bounded by Ohio and Indiana to the south, Lake Michigan to the west and northwest, Lake Huron from the northeast to the east, and further south, the St. Mary's River/Lake St. Clair/Detroit River and Lake Erie. With no locks or even rapids to block the flow from Gary, Indiana to Toldeo, Ohio, this clear waterway surrounding 80% of Michigan's southern landmass, creates what is commonly referred to as the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The center of which is still St. Louis.
This marker and sign is located within a city park in St. Louis.
