The escarpment once formed part of a major South West, North East highway, the Jurassic Way.

The hill takes its name from the flamboyant local barrister Robert Dover, who in 1612 transformed a small Whitsuntide feast into a grand festival of sport and pagentry called the "Cotswold Olimpicks" centuries before the present Olympic movement.

The Games take place on the hill on the Friday evening after the Spring Bank Holiday Monday.

Local man Frederick Landseer Griggs, aided by historian GM Trevelyn bought the site for £4,000 to save it from becoming a hotel development, and presented it to the National Trust in 1929

A wonderful panoramic view of over 60 miles (on a clear day!) at a height of 225m above sea level.

Seats provided, or take a blanket and picnic, to admire the view and a chance to walk along signposted route to see the varied habitats and species encouraged to live in the area.

Views of May Hill, Bredon Hill, the Malvern Hills, Clee and Clent Hills, Coventry, and the nearby Meon Hill at Mickleton.
