This wonderful garden was developed to celebrate the twinning of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada to Kariya, Japan. It was opened in 1992, on the 11th anniversary of this relationship.
The park features two waterfalls, a large pond with a "friendship bell" housed in a large pagoda. A path meanders around the two ponds and two waterfalls. There is a boardwalk with some reeds and several varieties of domestic trees, and some Japanese varieties as well. The large Cherry trees are an impressive display in the spring time. On the north end of the park there is a gravel feature that is raked daily with patterns around the large boulder. The park is still being developed as funding becomes available.
In the warmer months, the park is popular for wedding photography (including mine!), and a permit is required to control the crowds.
The park is open daily, year round, until dusk.
