The church was built on the site of an ancient chapel which was demolished and replaced by a new building in 1853 at a cost of £600. The new building is an elegant structure in Victorian Gothic style built of local random stone and brick. A small stone tower has a pinnacle and a cross on top. It houses two bells cast in 1715 by Samuel Smith of York. The windows in the chancel and nave are filled with modern memorial stained glass.
