The Limestone Furnace was built in 1855 by Evans, Walterhouse & others. The panic of 1857 forced the furnace into receivership and it never recovered, closing in 1860.

The furnace is visible from the CH&D road about 1/2 mile north of the Cooper Hollow Wildlife Area.

This furnace is in good condition and most of the exterior block is intact. The inner firebrick has been removed. The area around the furnace is very brushy.
