Enid's Carnegie Library was built in
1909-1910, after statehood was granted in 1907. The library opened August 1,
1910. The original Carnegie grant from 1903 of was increased from $10,000.00 to
17,500.00 in December of 1907, after pleas of increased need and population were
submitted. The lot was purchased for $4,000.00 in 1908.
The Enid Carnegie Library
served its community as a public library from 1910 until 1964. A new library was
built across the square from the Carnegie Library in 1964. The Carnegie Library
was destroyed in 1972 .
The new Enid Public Library
was built in 1960. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00am till
9:00pm and Friday from 9:00am till 6:00pm. Hopefully you have read the history
up to now to find out that not only is Enid filled with benchmarks but there is
one right on the library grounds. It is located just west of the building and
east of the sidewalk. I have posted a picture of it next to the sidewalk.
Post a picture of yourself
at the library.
