The
Kiva building on the
University of Idaho campus was named due to it's resemblance to the
Pueblo kiva's of the Southwest.
According to Encarta; "The kiva is the ritual center of Pueblo communities and is used for important ceremonies and social gatherings."
This Googie style structure lives up to its name serving the Theater & Film department as one of two main venues. The Idaho Repertory Theatre ("the longest running professional repertory theatre in the Inland Northwest") also uses the space for some of its productions.
"The Kiva Theatre is an intimate 125-seat theatre, configured for theatre-in-the-round. It also features digital lighting."
