This is not the first lighthouse built on this spot. The original lighthouse dates back to 1868. The current structure was built in 1914, and is an octagonal shape with a concrete base. This is also home of the only lighthouse in Canada with an active Post Office.
Please do be cautious when visiting, as the surf can be unpredicable here and many careless tourists have died when they are swept off the rocks. If the water is rough, observe the lighthouse from the parking area.
