This mark is a bit unusual in its location...but not that unusual when compaired to it's sister marks: MAPLE (KW1071) is in a lawn, RM 1 (KW1070) is in a sidewalk near the front of a house, & RM 2 (KW1072) is set in a concrete driveway.
The official (1966) description from the datasheet of Traverse Station MAPLE (KW1071) is as follows:
THE AZIMUTH MARK IS SET IN A CONCRETE COVERED PLAY AREA, BENEATH A BASKETBALL BACK BOARD, BEHIND HOUSE NUMBER 419 WHICH FRONTS ON WEST MAIN STREET (U.S. HIGHWAY 30). IT IS 52 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE GARAGE BENEATH THE HOUSE, 40 FEET NORTH OF THE APPROXIMATE CENTER OF GARDEN AVENUE, AND 8-INCHES EAST OF A CONCRETE CURB ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE PLAY AREA. IT IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED MAPLE 1966. TO REACH THE AZIMUTH MARK FROM THE WEST END OF THE WRIGHTSVILLE - COLUMBIA BRIDGE, GO WEST 0.2 MILE TO THE WRIGHTSVILLE POST OFFICE AND 4TH STREET, TURN LEFT ON 4TH STREET AND GO 0.05 MILE TO GARDEN AVENUE, TURN RIGHT ON GARDEN AVENUE AND GO 0.05 MILE TO THE REAR OF HOUSE NO. 419 AND THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE RIGHT AS DESCRIBED.
The only update necessary is West Main Street is now Hellam Street (PA 462) - US 30 is now located on a bypass to the N.
Note - this mark is located on private property - if you plan to visit, please obtain permission (or bring your zoom lens & visit it from Garden Avenue..it can be seen from the road)
