On the eastern end of Center Cemetery is East Hartford's monument to those residents that gave their life fighting for the union.
In addition to being one of the earliest monuments erected, in 1868, it also acknowledges the participation of African-Americans in Union forces.
A brownstone eagle once sat on top of the obelisk and the town currently has an open bid to have a new one made and placed.
