Corps of Discovery II – Philadelphia, PA, is located at the US Mint in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA. The 12-inch commemorative disk is set in the top of the flagpole base for the more southerly of two flagpoles near the steps leading to the entrance to the US Mint at the southwest corner of the building. The flagpole is about 27 feet east of the east curb of 5th Street, about 100 feet north of the north curb of Arch Street. The disk is three feet south of the north edge of the base, three feet north of the south edge of the base, four feet east of the flagpole, and about two feet above the level of the top of the steps. The disk was dedicated on March 13, 2004, to celebrate the initial production of the “Westward Journey Nickel Series” of coins. The disk does not have any identifying stamping other than the standard design elements of the commemorative series of disks: CORPS OF DISCOVERY II – 200 YEARS TO THE FUTURE – PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP. To reach from Interstate Highway 95 in Philadelphia, take Exit 22 (“Central Phila / I-676”), and follow signs for “Phila/Independence Hall/Callowhill Street”. Exit on to Callowhill Street and go west for about 0.05 miles to 4th Street. Turn left and go south on 4th Street for about 0.25 miles to Race Street. Turn left and go east on Race Street for about 0.15 miles to 6th Street. Turn right and go south on 6th Street for about 0.12 miles to Arch Street. Turn right and go west on Arch Street for about 0.07 miles to the intersection with 5th Street, the southwest corner of the US Mint on the right and the disk on the right.
