There is ornate ironwork and the gates bear the date 1888. On the brick gateposts are two plaques, one on either side of the gates.
They read as follows:
'This Park was opened by the Marquess of Tavistock, July 11th 1888, Joshua Hawkins Mayor.'
'These Gates were Presented to the Town by His Grace the Duke of Bedford H.G.'
They are of a Victorian design and the West Lodge to the park stands next to them, currently undergoing restoration.
