The Phoenix Club was built in 1893 and is one of Cincinnati's best examples of Italian Renaissance architecture. The building was designed by Cincinnati's renowned architect Samuel Hannaford, who designed many buildings in Cincinnati including Music Hall, City Hall and the Cincinnatian Hotel. The building was originally built as The Phoenix Club, the first Jewish Businessmen’s organization in this region of the country.
The building features a marble grand staircase and Tiffany stained glass which are original to the building.
In 1911 the building was purchased by the Cincinnati Club which is located around the block on Garfield Place and the building was used as a sports annex for the Cincinnati Club. Three enclosed walkways were installed between the two buildings. When the building was the sports annex it had a lap pool and bowling alley in the basement, the 2nd floor had a large billiards room with about 25 tables and the 3rd floor had a basketball court.
In 1983 the building was closed with the declining interest in private clubs and the building was boarded up. In 1986 the building was purchased and restoration began. The building was restored to its former glory and reopened in 1988 as a restaurant and banquet facility.
