On December 1st, 1919, Ambrose Small sold his Theatre Chain for 1.7 million dollars, and deposited the cheque in his account the next day, had lunch with his wife, then returned to his work at Toronto's Grand Opera House, left there, purchased a newspaper, and was never seen alive again. Despite a lengthy investigation by the police, who suspected foul play, due to his rather large fortune, no trace of the man was ever found, and reports of his spirit inhabiting what used to be, and what he may still consider to be, "his" theatre, continue to this day. They range from the playful tugging on one's clothing or hair, to the rather annoying,(but seemingly popular amongst the "living impaired"), messing about with lights and sound equipment,to full apparitions floating above the heads of cast, crew, and audience members alike. It is also been said that the ghost of a former cleaning lady has been witnessed in the theatre, as well as the entire Donnelly clan when the theatre mounted a production of "The Black Donnellys" some years ago.
