The Tinker Swiss Cottage was built in 1865 for businessman Robert Hall Tinker. The cottage inspired from a trip to Europe in 1862 when Mr. Tinker fell in love with the architecture of Switzerland. The cottage sits on a bluff above Kent Creek and features a suspension bridge across the creek.

The Tinker family were the only residents of the cottage and they left their home to the Rockford Park District after seventy-five years of residence. The house is operated as a museum with many of the original furnishings and artwork from a century ago.

Guided tours of Tinker Swiss Cottage are available Tuesday through Friday and on Sundays at 1, 2 and 3 pm. Allow at least 1 hour for the tour. The Museum is closed for tours on Mondays and Saturdays. Admission is $5/Adults 18 – 64, $4/Seniors 65+, $3/Students 5 – 17.
