The Göteborg Concert Hall (Konserthuset), designed by Nils Einar Eriksson, was opened in 1935 and is one of the largest monuments to Nordic functionalism, famous for its brilliant acoustics. Sweden’s national symphony orchestra, the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra, is based here with 109 musicians who play a good 90 concerts a year in the Konserthus. The orchestra can sometimes also be seen out in Götaplatsen and in Slottsskogen.
The Great Hall has 1,247seats and is usually sold out long before each concert. The smaller Stenhammar Hall, with 390 seats, is normally reserved for chamber music performances.
