The observatory is located on top of the Howard Building in the heart of campus although it was originally on top of the Museum of Science and History (MOSH) and then was donated to the university prior to 1989.
The observatory houses a 12" Meade LX-200 optical telescope with a solar filter for it. They also have an 8" LX-200, an Astroscan with solar filter, and several other small telescopes (Newtonians and refractors, mostly used for demonstations) as well as a Coronado Personal Solar Telescope which is a small refractor with a modest H-alpha filter. There is also a large homemade reflector that was donated, though it's rather cumbersome.
In the past the Society of Physics Students has sponsored open observatory nights, though they haven't been very active lately.
