They call themselves "The House That Love Built." The Central New York Ronald McDonald House first opened its doors Thanksgiving Day in 1982. Since that time, they have been a home away from home to over 17,000 families whose children are seriously ill or injured.
There has been discussion in recent months of building a new Ronald McDonald House a short distance down Genesee Street from their current location. However, there are many city residents who are fighting the razing of the existing structure at that location, wanting it to be named a historic structure-preventing it from being torn down. This has caused some unexpected delays in finalizing those plans.
