The museum is located in the cable car power house, on a balcony overlooking four enormous 500 hp electric motors powering the four one-inch diameter cables for the four cable car routes. In addition there is a viewing station in the basement level of the building that gives a view of the cables as they run under the adjacent street. If you have any gear head tendencies at all, this museum is the best thing about San Francisco, hands down.
