The Petronas Towers rises out of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre like a twin beacon. Although it has not been the tallest building in the world for some time, it is still considered the tallest twin towers in the world.
The architecture of the building is influenced by islamic and asian cultures. The number 8, considered "lucky", figures heavily in the architecture of the building:
- The building is 88 stories tall.
- Looking at a cross-section of the building, the shape is two squares offset at 45 degrees giving the building an 8 pointed-star shape around each tower.
- From the tip of the building to the base, there are 8 tiers to provide a gentle curve shape as the building rises.
At floors 41 and 42, there is a sky bridge that connects the two towers. Free passes are distributed daily for a chance to view the city from this unique vantage point.
