Founded by Ambrose J. Small, (whose disappearance on the day after he sold it , and continued appearances in the theatre to this day have led to it's reputation of being haunted), and Colonel C. J. Whitney of Detroit, The Grand Opera House, as it was then known, opened it's doors to the public for the first time on September 9th, 1901. This theatre has seen many a famous actor and actress tread across it's well worn boards, perhaps the two most famous being the late, great Hume Cronyn, and his wife, Jessica Tandy. It's not a large theatre,(seating only 839), but it is internationally known as being one of the best, both for the quality of it's productions, and for it's ornate interior.
