The train station in Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City if you prefer) was built in the 1930s by the French, and other than a set of escalators, looks much the same as it did then I'm sure. There is a small refreshment stand inside and lots of taxis outside. It's mostly used by locals and backpackers as most foreign travelers prefer the modern new airport on the outskirts of town. Still, it's a proper introduction to the largest (and probably most hectic paced) city in Vietnam.
