Heading through the old stagecoach roads in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, this painted turtle was taking a leisurely stroll across Buckingham Whiting Road.

This section of the road crosses over a good running creek, and this turtle was attempting, ever so slowly, to cross the road and get to the pond on the other side.
I had Gordie stop the truck before we got too close...and we helped him all the way across...
This is a great example of an Eastern Painted Turtle.

Describe what happened. Example
"Mother Blanding had made her nest between the goldenrod and bluestem outside my window late last June.
By chance we were sitting on the porch when we noticed little blandings in the same location we had seen the mother take 2 months earlier."
