Denver Skatepark, which officially opened July 29, 2001 will be not only Denver's first skate park, but also the largest, most elaborate and most expensive public skateboarding facility in the world (as of this writing). The $1.5 million, 60,000-square-foot skate park, located along the South Platte River between 19th and 20th streets, is the centerpiece of the new Commons Park and a key ingredient in the ongoing transformation of the Central Platte Valley from urban wasteland to the city's latest fashionable, mixed-use district.
