St. Francois County was organized December 19, 1821. The current courthouse was built 1926-1927 and is the fourth courthouse to serve the county. The Beaux Arts styled was designed by architect Norman B. Howard and is constructed of Bedford limestone. The cost of construction was nearly $250,000.
